Introduced in 1983 by the CMPE, the Certificate of Competence (CoC) scheme was set up to promote the safer use of plant, which is an independent and traceable system for the training and assessment of plant operatives working across the construction, house buiding, industrial, utilities and agricultural sectors.
CMPE is a member of the Plant Sector Representative Organisation (PSRO) Certificating Bodies Standing Subgroup which provides a platform and voice to the PSRO board and encourages schemes to work with employers in a bid to support and enhance the skills landscape.
A certificating body is an organisation that offers either formal qualifications (usually with the regulated qualifications framework) and/or offers skills cards that identify plant-based occupations and/or categories or types of construction based plant.
